In rural Kabarole, the distance between a woman in labor and the nearest health facility can be the distance between life and death. Our volunteer health workers identify the danger. They know what to do. But without transport funds, there is nothing they can do to close that gap.

The Gap That Kills

Uganda's maternal mortality rate remains one of the highest in the world. In rural Kabarole, the majority of maternal deaths happen not because care is unavailable — but because mothers cannot get to it in time. Emergency transport — a boda boda motorcycle — costs between UGX 10,000 and 30,000. For families with nothing, it is an impossible barrier.

  • Our volunteer health workers currently identify 3 to 5 high-risk emergency cases per month across our service area
  • Without transport funds, they have no way to get mothers to care quickly enough
  • Postpartum hemorrhage, eclampsia, and obstructed labor kill within hours — transport is not optional

What This Fund Does

This campaign creates a dedicated emergency transport fund managed by our maternal health team. When a volunteer health worker identifies a mother in crisis, they can immediately authorize transport — no waiting, no fundraising, no delay.

The fund also covers:

  • Advance transport booking for high-risk mothers approaching their due dates
  • Return transport for mothers after delivery, ensuring newborns reach home safely
  • Fuel allowances for volunteer health workers conducting emergency home visits

Your Donation, Directly Into Saving Lives

  • $15 — covers one emergency boda boda trip from a remote village to a health centre
  • $50 — funds three emergency transport trips, protecting three mothers
  • $150 — maintains the emergency transport fund for one full month across our service area
  • $500 — creates a six-month emergency transport reserve, protecting every high-risk mother we identify

"My third pregnancy went wrong very fast. The HAFT volunteer was there. She called for transport immediately. I reached the health centre in thirty minutes. My son and I are alive because of that thirty minutes."
— Annet, Kabarole District

A Small Cost. An Incalculable Return.

The average cost of one emergency transport journey is less than $15. The value of a mother's life — and her child's — is beyond measure. This fund makes HAFT's maternal health work complete: we identify the risk, we train the response, and with your support, we close the last gap.

Donate now. You may be saving a life before the week is out.
